Understanding Your Rates
Council rates are charged to property owners to fund essential services and infrastructure including roads, waste collection, parks, libraries, and community facilities.
How Rates Are Calculated
Rates are calculated based on:
- Your property's capital value
- The property category (residential, commercial, industrial)
- Any applicable rebates or concessions
When Are Rates Issued?
Rate notices are issued quarterly:
- Quarter 1: July - September (Due: August 31)
- Quarter 2: October - December (Due: November 30)
- Quarter 3: January - March (Due: February 28)
- Quarter 4: April - June (Due: May 31)
Important
Rates must be paid by the due date shown on your rate notice. Late payment fees may apply to overdue accounts.
Payment Options
Online
Pay securely online through our payment portal using your credit card, debit card, or online banking.
Direct Debit
Set up automatic payments from your bank account. Choose weekly, fortnightly, or monthly instalments.
BPAY
Use your bank's BPAY service with the biller code and reference number on your rate notice.
In Person
Visit our Customer Service Centre at Civic Centre, Main St, Great Victoria Desert. We accept cash, EFTPOS, and cheques.

Payment Plans
If you're experiencing financial hardship, we offer flexible payment plans. Contact our Rates team to discuss options.
Pensioner Rebates
Eligible pensioners and seniors may receive a rebate on their council rates. To apply, you must:
- Hold a current Pensioner Concession Card or Seniors Card
- Be the sole or joint owner of the property
- Use the property as your principal place of residence
