Welcome to Great Victoria Desert Council
Great Victoria Desert Council governs 348,750 km² of WA/SA, serving 600 residents across Great Victoria Desert's diverse arid desert communities.
Our Role
Council provides essential services to 600 residents across remote communities, maintaining infrastructure, protecting Woomera, and preserving Pitjantjatjara/Mirning cultural heritage. Our key services include:
- Roads, footpaths, and transport infrastructure
- Waste collection and environmental services
- Parks, gardens, and recreational facilities
- Libraries and community centers
- Planning and development services
- Community programs and events
- Local laws and regulations
Mayor & Councillors
The Council is led by an elected Mayor and Councillors who represent the interests of our community and make decisions on behalf of residents.
Council Elections
Council elections are held every four years. The next election is scheduled for August 2028. All residents are encouraged to have their say in who represents them.
Council Meetings
Council meetings are held monthly at the 1 Telfer Road, Tjuntjuntjara, Great Victoria Desert.
Meeting Schedule:
- Ordinary Meetings: First Monday of each month at 5:30 PM
- Special Meetings: As required
- Public Forums: 30 minutes before each meeting

There are many ways to have your say and get involved:
Attend Council Meetings
Members of the public are welcome to attend council meetings and observe the decision-making process.
Public Comment
You can speak at council meetings during the public forum session. Register your interest to speak with the Council Secretary before the meeting.
Written Submissions
Submit written comments on agenda items or community issues for Council's consideration.
Community Consultations
Participate in public consultations on major projects, plans, and policies affecting our community.

Council develops long-term plans to guide the future development and direction of Great Victoria Desert:

- Annual Business Plan: Budget and projects for each financial year
- Infrastructure Asset Management Plan: Maintaining and upgrading our infrastructure
- Community Engagement Strategy: How we consult and communicate with residents
